How to Arrive With the Chicest Host Gift: Wine, Flowers & Tipple

How to Arrive With the Chicest Host Gift: Wine, Flowers & Tipple

A five minute floral DIY to turn a simple bottle of wine into a thoughtful host gift.

The Easter bank holiday is here, and whether you’re hosting brunch or arriving at someone else’s table, bringing a bottle of wine is always appreciated. But with just a few stems and some ribbon or twine, you can turn that simple bottle into something far more thoughtful.

This quick floral DIY takes your wine from a polite gesture to a chic little gift — perfect for Easter lunches, spring dinners, or any long weekend moment that calls for good company and a glass of something nice.

The best part? It takes less than five minutes to put together.

What You’ll Need

  • A bottle of wine of your choice

  • Twine (we recommend wired twine)

  • Optional: Ribbon

  • Scissors or floral shears

  • A few spring flower stems (3–5 is perfect)

  • Optional but highly recommended: Tipple Hangover Defence

Tip: You can order flowers and Tipple from The Crate delivered across Dublin and Ireland — we’ll leave the wine selection to your favourite local wine shop.

Our Favourite Stems for This

Some flowers work especially well for this kind of styling — they’re lightweight, playful, and feel perfectly seasonal.

A few of our favourites include:

  • Ranunculus for soft, layered petals

  • Tulips for movement and spring colour

  • Anemones for a little contrast

  • Light filler stems for texture and softness

You’ll often find blooms like these featured in The Crate’s weekly bunches and our Forget Me Not, making them perfect for little styling moments like this.

How to Dress Up a Bottle with Flowers

Follow these quick steps to turn a simple bottle into a spring-ready host gift.

1. Choose your stems

Start by selecting a handful of stems that look lovely together.

The combination we used for this shoot was pulled from our Easter Bunch and included chamomile, delphinium, tulips, ranunculus, anemones, ginster, and a gerbera daisy.

Our bunches are intentionally designed to include a variety of blooms with a playful, natural feel — beautiful on their own or perfect for small DIYs like this one.

The mix we used:

  • 1 × Chamomile (Tanacetum)

  • 1 × Delphinium

  • 2 × Tulips

  • 3 × Anemones

  • 2 × Ranunculus

  • 1 × Ginster

  • 1 × Gerbera Daisy

2. Create a mini bouquet

Gather the stems together in your hand and hold them about halfway up the stems.

Using ribbon or twine, tie the stems together at that point, creating a loose mini bouquet. This keeps the flowers together while still allowing them to move naturally.

If needed, trim the stems so they’re roughly the same length, which will help them sit neatly when placed in water later.

3. Position the flowers on the bottle

Place the flower bundle along the side of the bottle, with the blooms resting near the shoulder of the bottle (just below the neck).

The stems should naturally fall downward along the glass.

4. Secure the flowers

Wrap the twine around the neck of the bottle, right where it narrows.

Loop it around two or three times to hold the flowers in place, then twist or tie a small knot.

Take a moment to adjust the stems so they sit neatly and naturally against the bottle.

5. Add the finishing touch — Tipple

For an extra thoughtful detail, attach Tipple Hangover Defence by threading twine through the top of the box and tying it alongside the flowers.

It’s a small addition that turns the whole thing into a clever and charming gift.

Optional: Once everything is secured, wrap a ribbon around the neck of the bottle to add an extra touch of style.

A Styling Tip

If you’re hosting this Easter, consider carrying the floral theme through to your table.

A few single stems placed in small glasses or bud vases instantly create a relaxed, spring-inspired tablescape without needing a large arrangement.

We shared a few easy ways to do this in our recent article, where our florist shows how the Forget Me Not bunch can be styled to create an eclectic and effortless Easter table.

A Quick Note

Fresh flowers can only stay out of water for so long, so we recommend assembling this within an hour or two of arriving at your gathering.

Showing up with a bottle is always a good idea. Showing up with a bottle dressed in flowers? Even better.

A small gesture, a little creativity, and suddenly your host gift feels thoughtful, seasonal, and full of spring cheer.

Cheers to a weekend of good company, fresh flowers, and simple little moments like this.

Cheers, The Crate

Please enjoy responsibly.
